Each week on Wednesday, I will post a status update. I hope that a few of you will join me on this journey and share your de-clutter experiences, both the highs and the lows. Let's help each other keep on track.
This week, I've been tackling the 'thing in the hall'. Basically, it's a vertical, multi-drawer junk drawer. You won't believe everything that I found in there!
There were cables and cords from electronic devices I no longer own, along with widgets and thingamajigs that I don't even remember what they were for. The broken bits got trashed immediately. Those items that are possibly useful to someone else got tossed in the donate box. I kept only those that were relevant to my current needs, like extensions cords and a battery charger. They could come in handy.
I came across sewing patterns for things I know that I will likely never make. Why did I buy them in the first place? I don't have an answer for you, but I'll bet that you have stuff like that around your house too. You have no idea what possessed you to buy them in the first place, let alone store them in the second place. The unwanted patterns went into the donation box also.
What area do you intend to tackle this week? What do you think you will find? More importantly, what will you do with it?
I have a couple of drawers i think might benefit from some decluttering. Won't get to them today but hopefully in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteAm DETERMINED to get back the family room! Only got as far as taking pictures of the horror and haven't yet figured out how to and the inlinkz code thingamajig but family be warmed! If it's been broken or unused for more than a year or if it doesn't fit any more IT GOES!
ReplyDeleteI've lived in the same house for over 37 years, so you can just imagine the piles of stuff I have accumulated over the years. You're right though. It IS time to try to get some of it weeded out. I'd be totally overwhelmed if I tried to do it all in one year. So I'll just start someplace and keep on going. There are 3 areas I'd definitely like to tackle. I need to go through all the accumulated recipes, and try to just keep the ones I've already deemed to be good. I set up a filing system for them last year, but I wasn't really trying to getting rid of many at that point.I just wanted to make them easier to find. I think weeding them out will have to be project number one. Project #2 is related. I have piles of food magazines under the bed in the spare room. They all have corners turned down on recipes I intended to make. No, let's not think about that yet. I have to do the first purging before I go there! The third area is right here in my office/studio. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned out and reorganized. As it is, I'm dragging my art work to the kitchen again, as my desk is piled with stuff I really have to find a way to store.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you on your De-cluttering Project. I'll be watching, which hopefully will spur me on too. This is a great idea, and I'm glad you thought of it!
Feel free to add a blog post here and there about it when you are able. Let us know how you are doing.
DeleteWill do. I already have the blog about my intentions written, but have not published it yet. My blog was picked up by EON (Eastern Ontario Network) last year and they aren't always good about posting the updates as quickly as I'd like. I'm hoping they get last week's post up by tomorrow, so I can release the new one. I don't want them to get too much of a backlog, which is something that has happened in the past.
