Week 11: Beauty All Around
This week let's check out the beauty in the world,
the beauty that we sometimes miss
because we are busy with the daily activities
we "need" to accomplish.
I realize that I shared this photo earlier this year (Week 5) but with the huge snow storm here this week, added to the fact that I had a spectacular fall in the parking lot at work, I was not able to get out and about to take a new photo. And I really like this one.
Even in the aftermath of devastation following the big ice storm earlier this winter, there was beauty. The ice on the trees glistened in the sunlight the next day and had an inherent beauty to it, as all of nature does. I was not quite so impressed after three days without heat or hydro but I got over it quickly when I woke up at 2 a.m. on Christmas morning to the sound of my furnace coming on. Now, THAT was beautiful! *smile*
It occurs to me that a child's artwork is always beautiful too, if only to their parents and grandparents. This lovely painting was done by my granddaughter about 10 years ago. I think it's fabulous and it still hangs on the wall in my office.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It cannot be judged objectively, for what one person finds beautiful may not appeal to another. It's more a function of the viewer than the viewed. But one thing is certain, beauty is all around us. You just have to open your eyes to see it.

Bonnie, wonderful art work your granddaughter made. I agree the beauty is in the eye of the beholder no matter what the subject.
ReplyDeleteI love your granddaughter's painting. It truly is beautiful. And your photo of the ice - I do love that one - it's stunning. I think the sound of the heater would be such a welcomed Christmas gift, too!!
ReplyDeleteThe ice on the trees is beautiful. It can cause havoc but it is beautiful! So is the painting by your granddaughter. Such bright happy colors! I'm so sorry you took a tumble on the ice, and I hope you are getting around better :)
ReplyDeleteI was a little worse for the experience (sore wrist and shoulder) but did not break anything. Luckily, there was a padding of a foot of newly fallen, wet snow to buffer my landing. It took three people to get me back up on my feet though.
DeleteWe had the storm here too, but due to accidentally being organized I took my pictures on Monday! Cute picture!
ReplyDeleteI 'planned' to be organized enough to get my blog photo and post ready early this week. Maybe next time, eh?
DeleteOh, hope you're OK - it's sure hard to keep one's balance these days. At least we seem to be thawing a little bit! I, too, was awed by the beauty the ice storm left behind... we actually have a poem in Romanian that speaks of 'A silver forest' in terms that always make me think of a frozen, glistening forest, just like we had back in December. You're right, the beauty *is* in the eye of the beholder, but a child's work is always beautiful even when you aren't related: there is innocence, there is freshness that breaths beauty.
ReplyDeleteBoth shots are beautiful and inspiring. There is indeed not just one beauty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and special painting. I love the snow scene - so pretty. Sorry to hear you had an accident - hope you are soon fully recovered.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hear you about unexpected accidents! Hope you are better now. Like your pictures, and your wise words.
ReplyDeleteI love that snow shot. The beauty belies the danger.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is one fabulous picture from your granddaughter. I suspect all kids go through a dinosaur phase.
Oh my goodness - so sorry to hear about your fall and hope you feel better. That ice photo is amazing. I love how the branches frame the little shed. And your grand-daughter's art work seems to indicate that creativity runs in the family!
ReplyDeleteBeauty truly is a matter of perception. Even with the cold temps this winter has produced some spectacular photography and your is included! Hope you recover soon.
