Sally
is determined to really challenge those of us participating in this year long project.
Week 12 was no exception.
Observe
the Curve
This
week take a moment to focus on all the different kinds of curves that surround
you every day.
As I was
driving to and from work this week, I was trying to be a bit more observant as
I made my way along. One thing that struck me was the buildings I passed. The
houses, factories and other structures made by man are very ordered, consisting
basically of straight lines and angles; everything perfectly matching up to
create a uniform image.
However,
those things made by Mother Nature are free-form, curved and full of amazing
stories. Take the tale that this tree
could tell if it could talk. What series of events caused it to grow in such an
unusual fashion? Why did the limbs branch out and curve up like they did?
Natural
forms have their own flow, something very difficult to capture in a man-made
structure. Aristotle said, “In all things of nature there is something of the
marvelous.” How very true!
I was so
glad that they were able to preserve this tree when they built the train station
and parking lot here. It’s a testament to its beauty, with all its curves, that the
architect and construction crew took great pains to work around it.
“May your
trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing
view.” — Edward Abbey
I agree...nature, when allowed to do its own thing...is a marvelous thing to see...great insight and beautiful photo of that tree..
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely tree... when we put an addition on our house it was built around an ornamental crab!
ReplyDeleteOh there's nothing lovelier than a tree with a good interesting trunk! That one is unusual! Great find.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous tree and I love the "u" shape of the branches. I'm also glad they were able to keep it .. such a beauty to see every day.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tree pic Bonnie. I have several tree pics in my house.
ReplyDeleteI think that tree is part nature and part nurture! It seems like the main trunk was removed at some time, and the other branches moved in to take its place.
ReplyDeleteThis post rings so true to me! And it IS a beautiful tree!
ReplyDeleteit's pretty amazing how nature can give such wonderful forms. Nice picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tree! And I love that Edward Abbey quote too.
ReplyDeleteThat really is a beautiful tree! Aristotle was so right!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, we should learn from Mother Nature and never build another boring house again :) I was thinking exactly the same this week: we tend to build 'stack-able' things and we end up with match-boxes everywhere...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree - I, too, am glad it has been preserved.
That tree is a treasure. Thanks for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! I had never thought of the "linear" difference between nature and man and it is soooo very true! Wonderful post. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo of the Pine tree. Where I lived as a teen there was a Pine tree in the front yard that we called our crooked tree it's trunk grew in a long S shape perfect to climb up on and sit.
ReplyDeleteTherese
I love curves! I was a dancer and love flowing objects in life and in nature.
ReplyDeleteI'm part of the bead soup party. Looking forward to the reveals. I'm now following you. I have a new blog. Please consider following my jewelry blog. Thanks.
