We touch a lot of stuff throughout the day. Ever notice how many different textures your fingertips feel? Probably not. Unless you are purposely feeling something for its' texture, we really don't pay attention.
This week, focus on how things feel. Then snap a shot of that texture.
I've been wanting to make some free-form, textured metal pendants, so today we got out the torch, along with various metals and started to experiment. Our test with aluminum was not fruitful, but we had varying degrees of success with copper and pewter.

Back of Pendants |
The texture on the front of these pewter pendants was created with various shells pressed into the metal while still hot. The definition on the back was from the slab of rock we melted the pewter on.
I'm not sure that you will see these pendants sold in my booth at any events but it was fun to play around with a new technique.
I must admit that I paid more attention this week to how things 'feel'. It was a delight to my senses.
Wow, they look great - I really like the added textures in the top photo, but I think they would look fab either way round!
ReplyDeleteThat's the good part...if they flip over while wearing them, as pendants so often do, it will still look good.
DeleteGood job Bonnie. It sounds like you had fun.
ReplyDeleteI did have fun. It is something that I will continue to play around with.
DeleteI like them! Funny though, i think the backs may be my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. LOL A few more experiments required to perfect the technique, I think.
DeleteHow interesting! I think both sides are really cool and definitely show a lot of texture! I'm partial to pewter and would probably like anything you did with it!
ReplyDeleteThere is a bit of a story behind the pewter I'm using which I will share in a blog post this week.
DeleteYour creations have a very organic look to them. I think I like the backs the best also.
ReplyDeleteI had fun experimenting a bit. I will be trying more as time permits.
DeleteOooh, contrary to most, I like the fronts! I'd love to play a bit with patinating and maybe tumbling? Interesting texture post!
ReplyDeleteDon't be afraid to venture into new territory. Give it a try!
DeleteVery organic and quite interesting. They'd be lovely paired with something bright and sparkly.
