This weeks’
photo prompt is CREATE ART. Think of the first medium that comes to your
mind...beads, wire, fibers, paper, paint, clay or crayons. Push yourself to try
something new.
According to
the Webster’s dictionary, ART is ‘the conscious use of skill and creative imagination,
especially in the production of aesthetic objects; also works so produced'. So
in light of that, what is ART? I think it's pretty hard to pin down precisely and that everyone has their own
interpretation, just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The first
medium that came to my mind was paper. A friend of mine sent me a couple of beautiful,
hand-made greeting cards last year and I have wanted to try my hand at card making
ever since. The ‘thought’ of scrapbooking has intrigued me for years too.
As I was out
looking for supplies this week, I recalled why I never actually did it. You
need a lot of supplies for paper crafts. Different scissors, coloured pens,
stickers, fancy papers, die cuts, ribbon, lace, rubber stamps, etc. And the supplies are
expensive! Then you have to have a way to store all the leftover bits and
pieces there would inevitably be.
That’s why I'd ended up purchasing a scrapbook page making software for my computer. It was
relatively inexpensive and I had fun with it for awhile. I think it might be time
to start playing around with it again.

So the paper crafts were not happening this week but I did CREATE
ART with beads and wire and nylon cord. I’m continually making Tree of Life pendants. They are a popular item at events we attend and it's hard for me to keep them in stock. I made a couple of sets of meditation beads to sell
on Etsy also.

Then I used my newly acquired Photoshop skills to add my company logo to the photos. Graphic ART is art too, right?
You are so right about paper crafts costing a fortune! When I started art journaling, I was lucky to already have many scrapbook supplies but I must admit I have purchased a lot of new paints. It is something we artistic people do..... we buy stuff! I always say it keeps me off the street and it's much more fun.
ReplyDeleteI buy beads, lots & lots of beads. There is no money left for paper crafts. LOL
DeleteOh I love tree of life pendants! Yours is lovely, and I like your logo, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you. My logo is an original artwork created just for me by an artist friend of mine. I love it.
DeleteYes, graphic art is definitely art, too!! Love your necklace though, it's super pretty and the wire wrapped tree pendant is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove the tree pendant! The colors are so gorgeous.
ReplyDelete(I'm #41 this week)
It's really difficult to find the teeny tiny gemstone chips for my trees. I've only ever found that one strand of carnelian and that is the last tree made with it.
DeleteThe tree of life pendant is gorgeousm especially with the spark of peridot green! I keep meaning to try this, as I have admired the many artists that post their wares on FB! You are so right about scrapbooking as being expensive! The scrapbooking aisles at my Michael's store is even larger than the bead section! But, my niece dabble in it and she creates such beautiful pages!
ReplyDeleteThere are a few citrine chips in there too. I was aiming for it to look like a tree changing colour in autumn.
Deletewait, wait, wait. Bonnie, you mean to say that creating art is not supposed to include the spending of all kinds of money on all manner of supplies and tools? I bow down!
ReplyDeleteNo, what I mean is that I've already spent all kinds of money on all manner of supplies and tools for OTHER art projects. LOL And everyone gets cranky around here if there is no food on the table.
DeleteAt one time I thought I wanted to make my own greeting cards but quickly found out how much that little venture would cost.
ReplyDeleteI love your Tree of Life pendant, and I'm a sucker for carnelian! Your sodalite necklace is lovely too.
I can see how it is hard to keep the tree of life pendants in stock. That one is lovely and the colors are amazing! I love the bright red and orange - definitely makes me want to go out and live!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the tree of life--in all its autumn finery. And kudos for figuring out how to add your logo to your photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful beautiful tree of life pendant and prayer beads! I bought card making supplies when I had an Etsy shop, to make thank you cards to send to customers. I couldn't believe how much I spent just for the basics!
ReplyDeleteYes graphic art is art. The wonderful necklaces are art too. The tree of life pendant is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many options in the paper crafting world that it can be overwhelming at times. I can understand your hesitation. I have a decent number of paper crafting supplies (thanks to a memory album that I started working on as a gift seven years ago). Your switch to pendants resulted in stunning works of art. Your tree pendant is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, Bonnie, I so relate to that paper craft being expensive statement :) I never cared much for scrapbooking, I do mine online, and print the photo books - much better that way.
ReplyDeleteBut I do own some paper craft tools - we make our own cards (mainly for Christmas)... luckily for me my SIL just moved 2 streets away and she *is* into paper crafts, so this year, at Christmas, I just borrowed all her stamps and paper cutters!
Love your life trees - and yes, graphic art is *art* too!
Very pretty tree of life pendant! I love these, and have always wanted to try my hand at them
ReplyDeleteLove your trees, Bonnie! Would love to see some of your other graphic art as well...yes, indeed, I certainly think it's art!
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie, I love trees and your pendant is beautiful! I haven't tried scrapbook yet either, I find the store aisle at Micheal's a little overwhelming, but digital scrapbooking sounds FUN and is definitely art!
ReplyDeleteI just love your sodalite prayer beads. And I wish that I had known that bead chips are hard for you to find. They are all over the place here.
